NPC Advantages: No requirements. intimidators (tauros, staraptor, arcanine), gardevoir (life dew, synchronize for burns), bellibolt (discharge, light screen), umbreon (thunder wave, synchronize for burns), drifblim (will-o-wisp), sylveon (charm, moonblast), arboliva (seed sower), and dudunsparce (thunder wave) are helpful.

Strategy: rain dance. wait for the orb steal. scald. wait for your stats to reset. 2x take heart. rest + heal cheer if you need HP and the shell bell isn’t ready yet. terastalize ASAP. 2-4 take heart. rain dance. scald to victory.

Notes: acid armor can be used instead of rain dance, but it slows down the run and makes the shell bell less effective. it also isn’t necessary because scald will very likely burn infernape before it uses swords dance.

Pros: supereffective tera type matching base type, great HP stat, good defense and special defense stats, excellent special attack stat, outspeeds infernape, resists flare blitz, 1.4kg mass gives grass knot a base power of 20 (rather than its max of 120), which more than makes up for the weakness. shell bell heals when attacking, an amount equal to 1/8 of damage dealt. rain dance puts up rain for 5 turns, which boosts damage output and shell bell healing, and activates hydration to clear a burn from flare blitz. take heart buffs 1 special attack stage and 1 special defense stage, and it also removes burns. rest heals full HP bar (and heals burns). scald has 80 base power, 100 accuracy, and deals supereffective STAB (tera-boosted when terastalized) damage. It has a 30% chance of burning through the shield, which counters swords dance.

Cons: weak to grass knot

  1. Grass Knot deals high damage on heavier Pokemon. Since Manaphy is a lightweight, it deals little even with super effective type. The base power of the move is 20.

  2. I would die with any water type Pokémon I used. I tried with my Azumarill, I ended up dead with grass knot after infernape used nasty plot
