In the original Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, the first wild Pokémon you battle will flee if your Pokémon’s HP bar turns red. I could not find any documentation on whether or not this happens in the remakes, so I wanted to test it. This phenomenon doesn’t occur, and the Poochyena is capable of knocking out the player’s starter. If this happens, the text “The wild Poochyena fled!” will appear outside of battle, before Professor Birch’s dialogue continues as normal.
