NPC Advantages: no requirements. intimidators (tauros, staraptor, arcanine), gardevoir (life dew), paralyzers (umbreon, dudunsparce), bellibolt (light screen), sylveon (moonblast, charm), and arboliva (seed sower) help.

Strategy: lunge (and optionally do so again after each time rayquaza resets its stats). draining kiss whenever you need HP and the shell bell isn’t ready. you can terastalize as early as when the orb is charged or as late as the first fairy attack after the orb is charged. moonblast until your stats reset. 3-5 quiver dance. moonlast to victory.

Notes: 44% chance of OHKO if targeted by dragon ascent turn 0. however, it’s recoverable, you’ll just finish with less time left on the clock. determining the right time to terastalize is tricky because the AI move selection is so random. if targeted by hurricane, it’s better to be terastalized. if targeted by earthquake, it’s better not to be. either way, charm and quiver dance can cushion the blow.

Pros: supereffective tera type matching base type, great special attack stat, outspeeds rayquaza even after it uses dragon dance. resists earthquake before terastalizing, immune to dragon pulse and draco meteor. no weaknesses after terastalizing. lunge debuffs attack 1 stage through shield while charging tera orb. quiver dance buffs special attack 1 stage and special defense 1 stage, draining kiss and moonblast have 100 accuracy and deal supereffective STAB (tera-boosted when terastalized) damage. draining kiss has 50 base power and it recovers 50% of damage dealt in HP. moonblast has 95 base power and has a 30% chance of debuffing special attack 1 stage. shield dust prevents confusion from hurricane (normally 21% chance). shell bell heals when attacking, an amount equal to 1/8th of damage dealt.

Cons: weak to dragon ascent, weak to hurricane before terastalizing, mediocre HP stat, defense, and special defense stats
