Pokémon Scarlet & Violet - Introducing the Magmortar Team! - Global Challenge 2025 II #1

(My apologies–I put this up in advance by mistake, as my videos aren’t always recorded and uploaded in the order I make them. This is the correct title, description, thumbnail, etc. for this video.)

Phew! I finished this team in time. Even had a bit of time to spare for testing this team out (which I didn’t record, as it would’ve been in an un-finalized state). This team will be undergoing editing after this event though, as I don’t feel like it’s working quite as well as it should, and some strategies I had ultimately didn’t work for it. There will always be more Pokémon I want to use, and that amount grows faster than I can make these teams. Nevertheless, this is the tenth team I’ve made for Generation IX, and I have still more planned, but that will depend on the trajectory of development for Pokémon Champions.

Still, here are the nickname origins of these Pokémon:

MAGMORTAR – Mortimer – From “mortar”

SANDY SHOCKS – Allen – From “Allen wrench”

REVAVROOM – Ford – Named after Henry Ford, inventor of the automobile and founder of the Ford Motor Company

MEGANIUM – Megan – From “Meganium”

WEAVILE – Amanda – Named after the main human from the webcomic Peach Fuzz

ENAMORUS – (no nickname) – That’s because this was the Mystery Gift Enamorus gained from completing the Hisui Pokédex in Pokémon HOME

And, of course, I begin each team’s introduction with someone who uses Restricted Pokémon. This being an Online Competition where one is allowed per team, you will find no shortage of Restricted Pokémon like this!

Type: Double Battle
Opponent: Saffira
Battle Court: Blueberry Academy
Music: Kanto Pokémon
My Pokémon: Weavile, Sandy Shocks, Magmortar, Enamorus (Therian)
Opponent’s Pokémon: Miraidon, Fogliaferrea (Iron Leaves), Urshifu (Rapid Strike), Incineroar

It might be for the best that my opponent doesn’t generally play with priority moves. I know they’ve been an increasing part of the metagame (which, by the way, I learned a few years ago is something of a dirty word among tabletop RPG players), though not everyone agrees with it, that it seems. Otherwise, I think I would’ve been toast. This team doesn’t have any intentional theme, though it seems that it likes to play with the Speed stat. (Not sure if either of my opponent’s last Pokémon were within range of a Fake Out knockout though.)

Also, I think this is the first team with multiple shiny Pokémon in it. Enamorus is shiny because she is one of the Pokémo HOME rewards, all of whom are shiny; Magmortar is shiny out of coming from the mass outbreak of Magby back when. Sorry for Magmortar not having much screen time in this video; there should be more videos later of Magmortar being present in battle for more than a turn.

Paradox Pokémon get different names in all languages Pokémon games are translated to, which means my opponent’s language is Italian (which otherwise just uses the English names).

  1. I guess that’s what I’m starting to remember. Just likely in this game, the introduction got here again, but that’s what the new level is about to take place to what it’s introducing, there’s more of them that I could be able to show eye contact, just then. I guess that’s what I needed to figure and see. The more I’ve been seeing according to the eye contact, I honestly have no idea what another team name is, but it looks like an excellent introduction of a team.

  2. -So this is your new team, eh? The Pokémon I'm most interested in seeing in action is Meganium.

-Even with the stats drop from Parting Shot, Enamorus was strong enough to take out Urshifu in one hit. I was a bit surprised by this until I realized that Enamorus's base SP ATK was 135, while Urshifu's base SP DEF is only 60.
-Sandy Shocks has a base SPD of 101 while Miraidon has a base SPD of 135. Despite this, your Sandy Shocks went first. I think your Sandy Shocks was holding a Choice Scarf.

-That was a close battle! And you had to play the game nearly perfectly in order to win.

  3. Weavile really is the embodiment of "One HP and a Dream!" I would have just let it die and wouldn't have bothered keeping it around but clearly that wasn't the best play!

Shame Magmortar didn't get to do much…there's always next time though!

  4. Great battle
Love the Pickpocketing tech, such an underrated ability, I recall WeedleTwinnedle building a theme around it a couple of years back.

  5. Oh? I thought Pickpocket doesn't steal an item in the same turn the item is consumed. Maybe I just presumed this because of the way Covet + Normal Gem combination works, where the item isn't stolen.

  6. Funny enough, 4 of your Pokemon have yellow eyes on this team. The only ones that don't are Magmortar and Weavile

That was a tight match, but luckily everyone (except Magmortar) was able to pull their weight and contribute immensely! Also lucky for Weavile to Pickpocket Urshifu's Focus Sash so that it couldn't survive an extra turn
