Marnie & Morpeko (マリィ&モルペコ) solo Azelf LA VH [Pokemon Masters EX]

And that’s another one down! That brings Marnie’s solo count up to nine, not too shabby at all, if I say so myself. Azelf was a proper nuisance. It puts out a lot of early offensive pressure and loves to pile on the debuffs, and unfortunately, Marnie’s 30% flinch rate just isn’t quite enough to keep things under control consistently. Took me a fair bit of trial and error to suss out the best approach.
For starters, MP Rekindle isn’t all that effective here due to the lack of breathing room, it just doesn’t give you the sustain you need early on. So instead, I went with Critical Eye to get her crit rate maxed out quickly. That does limit you to only two uses of her TM, though, so you’ve got to be clever about it, one use in each of Morpeko’s modes to grab the healing and the +3 crit. Using it too early risks missing out on maxing her Attack, unless you’re lucky enough to get a boost from Lucky Entry, +2 Speed or +2 Attack makes a big difference.
In previous almost successful attempts, I rolled Sp. Def from Lucky Entry 2, which turned out to also be helpful. Honestly, I’d recommend resetting until you get anything useful, just avoid Sp. Atk or Accuracy. All in all, this is a rather tricky clear given how reliant it is on flinching, but not unmanageable with the right setup and a bit of luck.
