Korone Learns of the Tragedy of the Paras→Parasect Evolution in Pokopia [Hololive]

Pokopia has been unexpectedly brutal in its portrayal of some of the more unsettling parts of Pokemon lore.

0:00 – Start
0:20 – Paras
2:00 – Parasect
3:06 – A Pre Paras
4:25 – Too strong

From Korone’s 4th stream of her playthrough of Pokopia.

  1. Mushrooms on paras's back can actually be removed, and you also can find them as an item that you can sell. The thing is however that they are already rooted inside paras, so they'll eventually grow back.

  2. The fact that the insect and mushroom parts DON'T exist as separate pokemon is the scariest part. It means parasect are just born infected. That is just the nature of their existence as Arceus made them.

  3. I want there to be a Pokedex entry about a paras that was separated from its trainer, evolved into a parasect in the wild, and then was able to remember its trainer and nickname even though it evolved before being reunited.

  4. Don't trust the Pokedex. It makes up stuff all the time. Not all Cubones can wear the skulls of their mothers.

  5. Ah yes, katakana as dialog… almost exclusively used for stereotypical-sounding robots, zombies, maybe occasionally foreigners who still don't fully grasp the Japanese language… a rough equivalent would be having them written in all-caps, speaking with a stutter, or having gaps between each syllable.

An exception would be games made for children so it'd be easier for them to read, like the original Legend of Zelda on the Famicom.

  6. That ending!!! Adorable and genius! 😂

Korone feeling sympathy for a bug??? There is hope! She just needs to be introduced to jumping spiders to complete her healing! 🥰🕷️

  7. The *extra depressing part is that, biologically speaking, the visible mushrooms are only a small part that creates spores. Even if it somehow doesn't kill Paras, it's reasonable that cutting them off will still do nothing as the mycelium roots and tendrils might still be infesting its entire body on the inside

  8. One of those things that I love about Japanese: being able to switch tone by switching to pure katakana.
I'm actually kind of surprised that you can just switch to pure katakana and it still work, but then again, I don't actually know Japanese. (Yet.)

  9. Parasect's Pokédex entry in Crystal reads: "When nothing's left to extract from the bug, the mushrooms on its back leave spores on the bug's egg." So the next generation of Paras are already doomed, and this species is trapped in a vicious cycle.

Also, in Legends: Arceus, the Dex says: "Mushroom-lacking specimens of this Pokémon lie unmoving in the forest, lending credence to the hypothesis that the large mushroom is in control of Parasect's actions." Just the mental image of mushroom-less Parasect bodies laying around is straight-up creepy.

  10. I hope there is another evolution of paras, where they manage to survive and not evolve into parasects😭

  11. Saw an interesting theory that Klawfl might be an unaffected Paras. It's a crab with similar orange colors and it appears only in dry regions where there are no mushrooms that can be picked up in the wild.

  12. Anyone know if she saw the conversation between Bulbasaur and Paras in this game, where Bulbasaur talks about how the bulb on its back will become a beautiful flower as it grows up, and Paras hopes the same will happen to it?

  13. Uh… "learns of the tragedy" seems like the wrong title seeing how she already knows about it right from the start of the clip

  14. probably not official but there is another evolution where the mushroom is turning symbiotic instead and not taking over the host

  15. If it works like the real life ant fungus, then the crabs mind is still in there. They ust can't controle anything. They are a passenger in their own body.

  16. The idea that Paras die if the mushrooms are removed must be a fan theory because I don't remember that ever being mentioned in canon. In fact there was an anime episode that showed Paras removing their mushrooms and planting them in a moist cave

  17. A pre-evolution for Paras that isn’t afflicted by the parasitic mushrooms sounds interesting, though I feel officially they’d go for a regional variant if they were to implement that idea.

Not sure what secondary typing it’s have, so I’d just say this hypothetical, alternate Paras loses the Grass type and simply eats leaves instead of eating the roots of trees and causing those to perish (because without the mushrooms controlling it, it realizes only eating the leaves means the tree will still be alive to grow more of them)

And without the mushrooms stunting its growth, this regional variant could not only have a completely different evolution, but a pupa middle stage as well! (It’s apparently based on cicadas though, but there are multiple species of those too, so I wouldn’t think it’d overlap too much with Ninjask if done right)

  18. I'd like a regional (dry climate) variant of Paras that doesn't have any mushrooms and evolves into something different. Pure bug type for the Paras, and maybe gaining some new secondary type for the evolved form?

First instinct says bug/rock, but maybe that'd make it too similar Dwebble and Crustle. Maybe the less common bug/ground combination?

  19. Who's gonna tell her about the Paras and Bulbasaur interaction where Bulbasaur thinks that Paras will bloom flowers?
